GrowCove held a standing-room only meeting on Monday, October 22nd to discuss the new Park and Recreational facility slated for Taylor Road. The moderated meeting included an expert panel and Q&A session. Panelists included John Hamilton (City of Huntsville), Steve Ivey (COH Parks & Rec), Justin Carter (Eastern League) and Bjoern Lanwer (GrowCove).

Thank you  to our panelists for your time, and also to outgoing City Councilperson Mark Russell who was very instrumental in making this wonderful new amenity happen!

Detailed minutes can be seen here.

The meeting was a big success, where people’s concerns were raised and appeared to be addressed in a satisfactory manner. We anticipate working together with the City and following up on items as necessary over the course of the next year or two as the site design is finalized (by Jan 2019), bids are received, and construction progresses to completion of all phases. The first phase is the Recreation Center building and site infrastructure (parking, sidewalks, landscaping, drainage, etc), followed by multisport fields, walking trail, and open-ended play area. Phases will be constructed concurrently as funding allows.

Additional conversations with the City about the need for convenient and inclusive play areas for children of all ages and abilities in the Cove have resulted in an enlarged playground footprint and the formation of a community-based working committee for play area design and fundraising!

Details about the new Ad Hoc playground committee will be posted soon!  To be involved with GrowCove recreation opportunities in general, join GrowCove  (it’s free!) and choose “recreation” on the membership form!
